In December 2002 four individuals incorporated the Isaac Scott Hathaway Museum as a nonprofit history organization. Mr. Hathaway's name was chosen for the organization as an honor to a native son who had made his own contribution to history through the immortalization of African Americans in plaster and bronze busts.
Our purpose is to educate the public about the lives and works of distinguished African American artists, writers and others contributing to the community.
Our 501(c)3 status was granted in 2003. Your contributions are tax deductible.
Our Board of Directors is Anne Butler, Gloria Rie, Beverly Persley, Gary Brown, Chester Grundy, Millicent Pettaway, Yvonne Giles and Elizabeth Lawson.
Our members make it all happen here at the Isaac Scott Hathaway Museum! Your fundamental support allows the museum to bring the unique story of Lexington, Kentucky born Isaac Scott Hathaway and others to life in an array of exhibitions and opportunities. Your membership also helps the museum provide a wide variety of cultural and educational programs to children and adults - lectures, concerts, walking tours, children's programs and art workshops that enrich our quality of life. By joining the museum, you can take advantage of special opportunities like free admission, invitations to opening receptions, first notice of exciting programs and activities. And very importantly, your membership fee is fully tax-deductible. We welcome anyone who has an interest in new insights about the history of the Central Bluegrass Region and the role African Americans played in its development. You do not need to be a resident of the state of Kentucky to become a supporting member.
